The following was posted on their Facebook page earlier today:
What does the Terence Higgins Trust stand for? They receive millions of pounds of taxpayer's money every year but do they use the money properly?
On a recent R Mornings programme Howard Conder criticized the trust. A viewer has now put an official complaint to the Spanish licensing authority about what was said during the programme. Therefore on Friday 17th August at 10.00pm Revelation TV will confront the complaint and examine the evidence.
We are inviting all of the Revelation TV viewers to join us for this programme. Therefore please make a note of the time and plan to join us.
With every blessing,
Gordon Pettie.
This seems to relate to the publication of sexual health booklets by THT, a subject which has been highlighted here by Anglican Mainstream.
This was my response to Revelation TV's Facebook posting which I repeat here so people know my position on this:
I need to declare an interest having been head of fundraising of an HIV/AIDS charity in the 1990's. I have looked at the stuff on Anglican Mainstream about the material produced by THT and there is nothing new there. ALL HIV/AIDS charities have distributed material detailing the health risks of different sexual behaviours over the past 20 years or so. I suppose the argument is that this is promoting that type of behaviour. Its hard to see that given the context (HIV and potential death). You would need to prove that these booklets encouraged people to do things they weren't already doing. That would be a tough call. The people at highest risk are the minority who are not heeding advice and taking high risks. Material like this may reach them and therefore save lives. The issue of distribution to young people is problematic, but better that young gay men be educated as to the risks than not (I have known too many who have died too soon). It is highly unlikely that anything will happen to Revelation TV over this complaint. Although broadacasting regulations across European countries have been homogenised, the UK authorities (OFCOM) would be unlikely to investigate on the basis of one complaint and its hard to see what rule has actually been broken. Its sad that they feel the need to have a go at THT, but if they get pleasure from it....
