Smitecam - Testing God

A guy called Martin Willett as an occasional project called "Smitecam" where he runs a webcam trained on himelf and invites God to strike him dead.

The purpose is twofold. Firstly, it publicises his athiest web site and beliefs. Secondly, it does challeneg the way people thing about God. For example, if Christians prayed to God to smite him, would that be sinful? It would prove that God exists. However, killing is against the ten commandments. Can God break his own commandments? Apparentlyhe can as he ordered Abraham to kill Isaac.

Although Smitecam is a publicity stunt, it is quite thought provoking.

  1. Yes it is obvious that this is a publicity stunt and a very poor one at that. The Bible instructs us not to test God. If God did kill this man then God would be taking orders from man. And the Creator does not take orders from the creation. Besides, we are saved by faith (Ephesians 2:8,9). If God did kill this man and proved God exists then there would be no need for faith and thus 'salvation by faith' would be made redundant.

God also can kill people. But whenever He does so (He is not bound by the rules He gave to man), it is for a righteous reason so is not murder as the commandment is actually against. However, God prefers to wait and let people repent and turn to Him rather than kill them. He is patient. This Martin man may one day repent and become a Christian and God is waiting for that.

And God told Abraham to kill Isaac as a test of his devotion. But God stopped Abraham before he actually killed Isaac.

One day this man will die and He will meet God. But at this point, it will be too late for him to repent and God will punish Him for His sins. Don’t let that happen to you. We are all sinners but Jesus took our punishment on the cross. We just have to accept that, repent and ask Jesus into our lives.

Why not come along to Dedridge Baptist Church again? If you do, I am sure you would get a warm welcome (everybody deserves a second chance!)
